Head of Manufacturing Programmes

Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):

Job Summary

To lead all Manufacturing Projects whether they are new vehicle programmes or stand alone capital programmes. 

Development of a Manufacturing PMO toolkit, standard reporting methods and metrics. Leadership of future Manufacturing Strategy and all cost vs. benefit analysis. Analysis of HPC, bench-marking and determining headcount requirements, high level launch planning and ramp up.   

The role provides the opportunity to play a key role within Manufacturing delivering the processes and facilities for the next wave of new products for Lotus in the UK.  As part of this the successful candidate will develop a suitable set of PMO tools used to deliver all product and non-product programmes.  Longer term there is the opportunity to help shape the future Manufacturing Strategy of Lotus Cars and bring the manufacturing operations into the 21st century.

Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)

Role and responsibilities

  • To include all or a combination of the following:
  • Leadership of all Manufacturing Projects and Programmes whether they are new product programmes or stand-alone capital programmes
  • Development of future Manufacturing Strategy
  • Ensuring consistent management and reporting of all manufacturing projects and programmes with emphasis on Quality, Cost, Delivery and Risk identification & mitigation
  • Representing Manufacturing Engineering at the highest level both internally and externally (e.g. Senior Management reviews / Third Party Clients).
  • Lead the development of a Manufacturing based Project Management Office tool set which can be used for all projects and programmes
  • Leadership of Manufacturing Hours Per Car (HPC) analysis including bench-marking activities
  • Leadership of initial high-level launch planning to determine maximum ramp up rates and vehicles produced per annum
  • Working with Purchasing to identify, nominate and manage any third-party providers used for the management of projects
  • Leadership of and delivery of any cost/benefit analysis required from Make vs. Buy studies to strategic business decisions
  • Managing all requests from Lotus Engineering for machined components or assemblies which will be supplied to third parties
  • Attendance at relevant project meetings as representative for Operations / Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Leadership of the provision of production readiness metrics
  • Leadership of Prototype Build & production ramp-up support, planning and co-ordination

Other information

Essential criteria

  • HNC/ HND/ Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
  • Detailed knowledge of project delivery within OEM automotive industries
  • MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint & Project
  • Delivery of Project & Programmes within an automotive environment
  • Must be proactive, have excellent attention to detail, be a team player & a good communicator
  • The applicant must be self-motivated, able to work on their own initiative and have good time management skills

Desirable criteria

  • MSC/MBA
  • Manufacturing Strategy Development, Business Office Experience
  • Very good working knowledge of niche vehicle & OEM automotive industries
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Value Stream Analysis, Continuous Improvement & project delivery is desirable.
