Harness Design Engineer

Purpose

  • Design, development, and support of wiring harness systems as required by the team for both on and off car installations including R&D, garage, simulator, and wind tunnel requirements
  • Generation of Schematics and CAD schemes for electrical harnesses, producing assembly drawings, bill of materials, and technical drawings for harness manufacture.
  • Specify components and produce manufacturing documentation for internal/external workshop facilities
  • To actively contribute to the Team’s primary objective of consistently being a top three team in the FIA Constructor’s Championship

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design high quality, reliable, lightweight, and cost-effective wiring harness installations
  • Specify wiring schedules, wire gauges, connector, and pin requirements
  • Work closely with the Design Office and Production Departments to produce cohesive designs
  • To chair, attend and proactively participate in meetings as required
  • To work proactively, responsibly, and professionally at all times and to respect and comply with the company’s reporting structure
  • To maintain and develop skill levels to industry standard and maintain current and thorough working knowledge of harness design practises and associated software packages
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested aligned to you job role

 

Skills & Knowledge Required

 

Essential

  • At least 3 years’ experience specifying and designing wiring harnesses and installations in Formula 1
  • Possess a thorough understanding of wiring systems utilised in motorsport and Formula 1
  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of harness components and materials
  • Be able to demonstrate an innovative, practical approach to problem solving with a high attention to detail.
  • Be highly motivated with the ability to work to a demanding schedule, thriving under pressure and have a flexible approach to working hours
  • Be results orientated and be confident in your decision-making skills
  • To have a flexible attitude and ability to work as part of a team in a demanding and rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of and commitment to Health & Safety

 

Desirable

  • Working knowledge and experience using Catia (3D experience desirable)
  • Working knowledge of Zuken
  • Experience with vehicle communication systems (CAN, Flexray, ethernet)

 

The role will be based at the Silverstone Factory / Brackley premises however there may be a requirement to travel as and when requested to meet the requirements of the Company.
