Global Used Car Cycle Manager - Band D

The McLaren Qualified sub brand was launched in early 2012. Raising awareness of the McLaren Qualified sub brand and leveraging compliance with the programme standards throughout the dealer network are key. This must be achieved within a 360 degree approach to used cars and the key points of value creation.

Principal accountabilities:

Pre-owned Programme:

  • Manage and develop ‘McLaren Qualified’, McLaren Automotive’s pre-owned programme
  • Managing and fine-tuning the overall pre-owned regional sales plan for each region in collaboration with the region team
  • Defining local market requirements and work with the Head of Network Development at MTC to drive achievement of the sales plan.
  • Drive the regional dealer network to market all pre-owned cars as Qualified
  • Ensure the Qualified warranty (and Extended warranty) offer meets the needs of each market in delivering low costs, high customer service and increased profit to McLaren and the network.
  • Provide used car market data and reports for the benefit of McLaren Central
  • Development of pre-owned customer finance offers with McLaren Financial Services

Used Car Systems:

  • Point of contact for suppliers of data and web services
  • Identify opportunities to add or change features to deliver incremental commercial benefit
  • Objective analysis of service provisions in terms of value for money and return on investment

Internal Used Car Management:

  • Working with the Commercial Operations team, track internal fleets and plan their usage and de-fleet such that financial returns from the fleets are optimised
  • Ensure stakeholders have a single view of fleets such that all cars can be managed as one set of assets to optimum effect
  • Planning and management of de-fleet and refurbishment such that cars are returned to market at the appropriate standard and cost
  • Management of the operational finances of the internal fleets such as refurbishment parts, stand-in values and re-sale prices
  • Forward planning and sales strategy for end-of-lease-contract cars that come back from the market so that they are received and returned to the market in an optimised manner

Finance Programme:

  • Develop the Financial Services capability through improving existing relationships and creating new effective relationships with FSP’s
  • Identify and implement products and services appropriate to the market place
  • Identify opportunities and mechanisms for MFS to support new and used car sales campaigns
  • Act as a subject matter expert on Financial Services compliance issues for the region
  • Ensure Financial Services plans are integrated into regional Sales, CRM and customer renewals processes
  • Achieve agreed  KPI targets for MFS and MI

Value Cycle:

  • Link with new car programmes in-and post-gateway such that the requirements for optimised used car performance (internal car spec, option mix, volume planning etc) from day 1
  • Seek opportunities for used car growth within the new car context, i.e. tailoring the used car plan and behaviours to account for new car dynamics
  • Work with aftersales on activities to maximise parc retention and customers satisfaction

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Significant automotive operational experience, ideally including a dealer facing or used car OEM role
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of the used car market, practices and processes is essential, gained at dealer and manufacturer levels in various markets, giving an ability to engage productively with dealer sales staff and management.
  • Previous experience of delivering a monthly sales targets
  • Highly developed analytical skills with the ability to build insight from data
  • Communication, performance reporting and business case justification at a strategic level within an organisation
  • Experience of vehicle remarketing
  • An understanding of aftermarket warranty products
  • Significant demonstrable experience of performing Financial Services operations
  • Experienced in dealer and bank/Finance Co.  negotiations
  • Understanding of loan underwriting and general risk / compliance policies in each market
  • Good understanding of residual values setting
  • Good account management skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
