Event Operations Digital Print Intern

Nestled on more than 1,400 acres in the Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is a track rich in racing history. It has been the love of NASCAR racing and the thrill of a great time that has made it a favorite of race fans and drivers alike for more than 50 years. Michigan International Speedway has more than 12 campground and is the state of Michigan’s largest registered campground. In addition to two great weekends of racing, the speedway is home to events throughout the year including the MIS Backyard Hockey Tournament, Faster Horses Festival and Nite Lites.

Summary:  Work directly with the Event Operations team to help create, layout, and print signage needs for internal and external customers. Learn and execute the process of signage production process, from digital design to final print product.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Press File Setup and Graphic Asset Management – Layout and incorporate sign requests utilizing current facility and corporate partner branding.
  • Logistics – Work with the Digital Print Coordinator to create a production and installation schedule and ensure it is completed on time.
  • Marketing and Public Relations- Assist in layout and design needs for the marketing team to utilize for events/shows, while maintaining the brand of MIS and its direct partners.
  • Material Knowledge – Learn about the various print materials and their appropriate applications and usage.
  • Material Inventory- Work with the Digital Print Coordinator to ensure proper inventory is sufficient to meet the print and installation schedule.
  • Work Flow – Utilize current workflow system to track and manage sign projects.
  • Equipment Management - Service and maintain print and cutter equipment as necessary.
  • Efficiencies – Assist in implementing financial and operational efficiencies within the Event Operations Department.

Minimal Responsibilities:

  • Sign Applications – Understanding and willing to assist with vinyl and banner applications
  • Maintain Current Sign Inventory- Work with the Digital Print Coordinator to create a timely sign maintenance schedule to ensure that signage is being replaced as it becomes damaged or as it reaches its life cycle.
  • Equipment Storage – Ensure all equipment is cleaned and stored properly to ensure longevity of the equipment

Job Requirements:

  • Must have knowledge of various file formats and their usage.
  • Full working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and other programs in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Computer and technology literate
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work in a team based work environment
  • Able and comfortable working with tight deadlines
  • Willing to work overtime which includes evenings & weekends
  • Willing to learn other job duties
