Engineering Supervisor, Powertrain

Tesla has an immediate opening for an Engineering Supervisor to join the Production Engineering team at our Fremont Factory. We are seeking an energetic, skilled, cost-conscious, team-oriented individual to be responsible for the performance of an equipment and process technicians on shift. The incumbent will manage a team of technicians to ensure that perform at a high level while meeting the needs of the production floor. The individual will be responsible for all production engineering related metrics for their shift. He/she will performance manage their team to generate the highest value from every employee while maintain a high level of technical ability.

Responsibilities:

  • Interact with the manufacturing team members to determine shift priorities and allocation of labor.
  • Drive improvement activities across the shift to increase team knowledge and capability.
  • Work with equipment engineering to increase equipment uptime and utilization.
  • Align with process engineering team to disposition NCM material and drive to eliminate scrap and areas of low yield.
  • Adhere to strict 5S standards and maintain cleanliness on the floor and within automation cells.
  • Provide support for new equipment installation, startup, and hand over.
  • Improve preventative maintenance activities to decrease overall downtime.
  • Troubleshoot down equipment to root cause and suggest long-term countermeasures for elimination.
  • Observe all safety policies during the execution of required tasks.
  • Complete requested activities as assigned.
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, layouts, defined plans, and written/verbal instructions.
  • Required to work with and around hazardous areas and hazardous chemicals and materials.

Requirements:

  • Must have understanding of general manufacturing processes, automation, and controls.
  • Experience with Fanuc robots and PLC programming.
  • Must demonstrate reliability, initiative, and desire to learn.
  • Must be adaptable in work schedule (including compressed work week and night shift) and working environment.  
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills along with strong attention to detail, flexibility, and prioritization.
  • Capable of provided constructive feedback to subordinates.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information.
  • Multitasks and adapts to constant change.
  • Able to use Microsoft Office software.
  • Able to wear all required PPE associated with required tasks.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for 10+ hours per day, wear air purifying respirator as needed for specific tasks, Lift at least 10 -20 lbs on a regular basis, perform repetitive hand and wrist motions and sometimes may have to twist and bend body, Ability to climb ladders/stairs, Work in loud environment. Must be able to discern audible alarms, must be able to distinguish colors and possess accurate depth perception.
  • 2 years of college/technical school or equivalent work experience.
  • Applicable documented Training and/or Certifications a plus.
