Engineering Manager, Interior & Restraints

Key Responsibilities and Activities

  • Product Design:
    • Set strategic design direction and own requirements for the interior and restraints team
    • Provide technical oversight, expertise and guidance for interior and restraints team
    • Direct key contracts for Transition’s automotive crash safety activities:
  • Crash safety analyses performed by outside vendors using Madymo and LS-Dyna
  • Headliner and impact foam design, analysis and procurement
  • Airbags and Airbag Control Unit (ACU) procurement
    • Track compliance with FMVSS crash safety requirements
    • Direct vehicle-level crash tests, write test plans, review results, and write test reports
    • Work closely with other departments to ensure high-value tests and simulations properly capture vehicle configuration and collect required data, and ensure results are disseminated effectively
    • Recommend additional test efforts and/or design changes based on vehicle crash data and simulations
    • Travel to subcontractors and partners in the US, Europe and/or China (15% travel)
  • Team Leadership:
    • Set assignments for team and provide oversight of work
    • Mentor and develop engineers
  • Management:
    • Track and report progress toward product technical, schedule and cost goals
    • Manage day-to-day design process and design reviews
    • Work with program management to clearly outline alternatives, pros/cons, and risk mitigations to different projects
