Electromechanical & Maintenance Engineer

We are currently looking for an Electromechanical and General Maintenance Engineer for both planned and reactive machinery maintenance and repairs and general facilities maintenance, who has a hands-on approach to all aspects of this role.

The successful applicant will be responsible for undertaking activities on a diverse range of machinery and mechanical equipment. In addition, an accreditation in electrical is essential to the role, as replacing drive motors and other electrical breakdowns should be able to be identified and repaired wherever possible.

This role also has responsibility to ensure the buildings and surrounding grounds are kept in good repair, with emphasis on first class workmanship and an eye for detail, whilst ensuring conformity with health and safety regulations for staff and the Company.

Suitable candidates need to be time served or hold a recognised engineering/maintenance qualification, preferably from a similar manufacturing background. This is a hands-on role involving both planned and reactive maintenance.

Our machinery includes presses, tumblers, CNC and mini mills, lathes, grinders, pillar drills, shot-blasters, skin packaging and cutters.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out safely and securely; for both employees and contractors and in line with company policies and procedures, and current health and safety legislation;

2. Be proactive, with regard to maintaining site machinery, recommend on-going improvements for efficiency and effectiveness;

3. Designing maintenance strategies, planned preventative maintenance schedules, procedures and methods;

4. Advise management of any safety issues that need action and ensure that anything requiring urgent action is dealt with immediately;

5. Ensure you are familiar with all existing equipment on site, where necessary make your line manager aware of any shortfall in knowledge and suggest a way to overcome this;

6. Seeking new initiatives to drive maintenance issues to a minimum;

7. Carrying out routine maintenance work as per the schedule and respond to equipment faults/breakdowns as they occur;

8. Diagnosing breakdown problems and install/repair parts and making sure equipment is working correctly and the installation/repair is documented. This may involve longer hours in the event of a machine breakdown;

9. Troubleshoot faults with control gear and PLC systems;

10. Install and commission equipment and machinery electrically, pneumatically and mechanically;

11. Carrying out inspections on equipment and machinery and ensure they are fit for purpose, and meets all safety requirements;

12. Carrying out other property / facilities / maintenance duties as required; including:

a. monitoring, setting and maintenance of the heating, water and lighting systems;

b. general building maintenance (changing light bulbs, emergency light testing, basic maintenance, plumbing and electrical work etc;)

13. Overseeing, planning and supervising the Grounds and Maintenance Operative’s duties, including;

a. Maintaining all planted areas and grounds, pruning and leaf clearance plus other horticultural maintenance as required;

b. Carrying out grass cutting, strimming and hedge trimming plus landscaping, turfing, seeding, shrub and tree planting as required;

c. Carry out any other maintenance tasks as required e.g. pressure washing, spraying and basic DIY tasks within the building such as basic plumbing, decorating and general repairs;

14. Ensure that an effective pest control programme is in place, throughout the building and grounds;

15. Identify and implement, key essential spares to be kept in the maintenance stores;

16. Placing orders for consumables and spares; checking and signing the delivery notes and reviewing and signing the invoices;

17. Monitoring and controlling maintenance costs and seeking the relevant purchase authorisation;

18. Negotiate prices for maintenance/repair work;

19. Ensure contractors are given a site induction and paperwork is completed fully and accurately and the work is checked before signing off and/or agreeing pending actions;

20. Liaising with department managers and production operatives to ascertain relevant information about machinery and to provide timely and informative updates to the department managers;

21. Ensure tasks set for yourself are completed in the agreed timeframes, ensuring feedback and communication is delivered promptly;

22. In a very reactive environment; compile and manage a call/job log;

23. Working with specialist equipment such as the cherry picker.
