Electromechanical Engineer (Electronics Packaging)

Key Responsibilities and Activities

  • Design, integrate, and test lightweight enclosures for high voltage power electronic devices
  • Aid in the identification of appropriate electric motors, and develop powertrain components with an emphasis on
    • Low weight
    • High reliability
    • Electromagnetic compatibility
    • Heat rejection
  • Develop cooling for power electronics, including the refinement of thermal models, modeling of liquid and gaseous fluid flow, and the design of heat sinks or other thermal management components
  • Develop or refine heating systems for temperature sensitive components
  • Assist in the integration of electronic components into a larger liquid or air-cooling system
  • Assist in the design of battery and electronic component housings to meet crashworthiness requirements
  • Specify materials, coatings and components to resist environmental attack and ensure compliance with Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
  • Provide CAD work in support of design activities, including directing drafting and product definition staff and application of good drawing habits and industry best-practices for GD&T
  • Support and participate in testing activities – component, drive, and/or flight – as needed, including test plan creation, data analysis, and test report generation and documentation
  • Support the Certification Director with compliance and certification activities and best practices, including design, test, and analysis documentation, internal and external audits, and other activities as needed
  • Participate as a key player in the design-build-test process for the Transition®, including conceptual, preliminary and detailed design, requirements definition, design reviews, prototyping, and testing
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with other engineers, technical personnel, and management

Required Skills and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 7+ years technical work experience, or;
  • A master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 4+ years technical work experience
  • Advanced SolidWorks experience, experience with FEA and CFD tools is desired
  • Proven experience with rapid design cycles: taking a design from concept through detailed design, build and test
  • Outstanding organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills
