Electrical Design Engineer, Safety Systems

The Role:

Tesla is seeking an Electrical Engineer to focus on the integration of the Passive Safety Systems in multiple vehicle platforms. You will be responsible for supporting existing passive safety systems, as well as, developing and integrating future passive safety system designs. You will work closely with the both internal and external engineering teams to define design specifications, document system behaviors, and coordinate and execute integration test plans. (Design and/or validation)

Responsibilities:

  • Architect and design safety systems for future products.
  • Work cross-functionally across mechanical, electrical, system architecture, firmware development and firmware validation teams to define and implement passive safety behaviors in accordance with FMVSS, ECE and other global safety regulations.
  • Support Passive Safety Crash Validation activities by developing automated data collection tools, analyzing crash data and documenting results.
  • Triage, diagnose and define corrective actions for issues discovered during validation testing at all levels, from component to full system.
  • Work with manufacturing and service to ensure the passive safety system will be correct in products in the field. This can include the development of processes, diagnostic tools and methods, and root-cause diagnosis for product issues.
  • This engineer must be eager to work in an aggressive start-up company environment with great opportunities for growth and spectacular achievement.

Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience is required. 
  • Familiar with FMVSS and ECE regulations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ISO26262 automotive functional safety guidelines is a plus.
  • Experience with Controller Area Network (CAN) communication and CAN tools such as Vector CANape.
  • Familiar with database concepts (SQL).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • An exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities and challenges.
  • Experience programming in C and Python is a plus.
