Electrical and Hydraulic Systems Designer

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Pratt & Miller Engineering designs, builds, and tests advanced fully electric, hybrid, robotic and autonomous vehicles as well as other high technology platforms for its customers. As Pratt and Miller has pushed what is possible, the complexity of these platforms has created a need for a designer to focus on the mechanical integration of the electrical components, wiring harnesses, hydraulics, and other supporting subsystems. An ideal candidate will have previous experience integrating electrical and hydraulic components in both CAD and on vehicles as well as be capable of basic wiring harness schematic creation. Skills in mechanical part and sheet metal design are also strongly desired.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following items:

Vehicle Electrical Design

    • Wiring harness and cable modeling, routing and integration in CAD

·Wire harness design for manufacturing and assembly

·Connector modeling and library creation

·Support generation of wiring schematics

·Electrical component mounting solution design

·Electrical subsystem and wiring harness BOM generation and maintenance

·Creation of wiring harness designs using lengths off existing platforms

·Define wire harness retention points

·Evaluate routing to avoid pinch and crush points

·Help establish electrical system design rules

Product and Platform Design

    • Hydraulic and cooling system routing and integration in CAD
    • Hose and fitting selection based on system flow and pressure
    • System and component detail design using parametric solids CAD modeling
    • Design of component mounting solutions
    • Testing and manufacturing fixture design

Project Support

    • Work with design and electrical engineers as well as manufacturing technicians to improve performance and manufacturability of components and systems
    • Support programs from concept, design, testing and validation into low volume production
