Electrical and Communications Technician

The company:
Williams is one of the world’s leading Formula 1 teams. It exists purely to race in the top echelon of motor racing, where it has been winning Grands Prix for more than three decades. The Williams name has been synonymous with top-level motorsport since the 1960s.

The position:
Williams are looking for an Electrical and Communications Technician to join a small team of people responsible for the communication systems and electrical wiring harnesses used by the team.

The role:
The tasks required will be:
Travel to some of the Race and Test events during the race season.
Ownership of the radio and intercom systems used to communicate between team members both at the circuit and at the factory during an event.
Build complex and challenging electrical wiring harnesses to exacting standards.
Provide on/off site support for Harness diagnostics and fault-finding.
Interface with engineering team to support harness and electrical system design development on prototypes.
You will be expected to be able to build one offs and also be able to cope with higher volume production runs.
Manage BOM's and procurement of parts.
Maintain workshop records and drawings.

Core competencies:
The successful applicant will likely hold a relevant qualification (Apprenticeship, ONC, HNC or HND) in an engineering or manufacturing discipline.

Core Skills:
The skills required for the role are:
A sound understanding and ability to manufacture complex wiring harnesses from manufacturing schematics.
A basic understanding of radio systems
Knowledge of common connector systems, wire types and sleeving methods.
A flexible practical mindset and can-do attitude along with the ability to follow written / verbal instructions with attention to detail.
Able to work under pressure and to short time scales in a Team environment.
Be willing to travel to Race and Test events during the season.
A Technician with good “hands on” experience within an engineering environment.

Experience with some of the following technologies would be highly beneficial:
Working knowledge of Raychem system 25 standards and processes
Fault finding at component level
Experience of building electrical wiring harnesses (preferably within a Motorsport, Aerospace, Defence or similar sector).
Utilise motorsport wiring harness techniques using industry standard sealed System 25 and Contra-helical lays.

A basic understanding of: -
Radio frequency allocation,
Radio programming,
Dect 1.9mhz radios,
Computer networking (VLAN’s etc)
MRTC systems and panel programming
Radio Repeaters
Good MS Office skills (Excel, Word, One Note and Outlook)
