Drag Racing Park Leader

Job description

This is a non-exempt temporary, part-time position, limited to 1300 hours annually under supervision of the Drag Race Coordinator. This position oversees safety and regulatory compliance of all vehicles and drivers prior to entering any drag racing event.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Periodically review current NHRA rulebook to ensure adherence to all safety requirements.
  • Ensure the latest rules and standards are relayed to participants and other staff.
  • Oversee the periodic delivery of tech cards to the tower for data entry purposes.
  • Ensure vehicles are assigned a competition number and assign if needed.
  • Obtain ladder from tower and direct cars into proper staging lanes and pair individual racers when laddering during eliminations.
  • Maintain familiarity with current run order and PMP lane pulling procedures.
  • Advise drivers to be prepared when it appears their respective lanes are about to be called.
  • Verify all competitors have wrist bands before leaving staging lanes to make a pass.
  • Ensure all competitors have been through tech and have a number CLEARLY visible on the windshield and passenger side of the vehicle (motorcycles may have one on their windscreen).
  • Keep spectators from entering restricted areas.
  • Assist in oil clean ups and debris removal while staging lane duties are implied.
  • Monitor participants and vehicles for continued compliance with NHRA tech rules.
  • Inspect vehicles prior to proceeding to start line.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required/assigned.

     

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Drag racing operations, services and activities.
  • Principles of lead work and supervision.
  • All Pueblo Motorsports Park and NHRA bracket racing rules.
  • NHRA tech requirements.
  • Ability to:

     

    • Communicate with Race-master and Drag Race Coordinator to maintain orderly flow of race day activity.
    • Maintain accurate time sheets and submit them to a designated supervisor in a timely manner.
    • Follow City policies and regulations.
    • Establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationships with other employees and the public

       

    Minimum Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities the position requires:

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. equivalent or higher education
  • Proven customer service skills
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must obtain and maintain SFI /NHRA Tech, and SFI Safety Rescue, CPR and First Aid Certifications. First Aid certification must to be obtained within six months of appointment. All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout the term of employment. Failure to obtain and maintain the licenses and certifications may result in demotion or termination. The individual must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule and perform occasional overtime with some weekend and holiday work required. Work is performed in high stress environment and extreme environmental conditions.
