POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Digital Marketing will oversee the vision, development and go to market plans of the INDYCAR digital ecosystem (e.g. the NTT IndyCar Series APP, INDYCAR.com, and @INDYCAR handles), with a focus on delivering best in class content to existing fans and leveraging the channels to help target and engage new consumers/fans.

The Director of Digital Marketing will work closely with the VP of Marketing to deliver against key marketing initiatives and objectives; partnering with other members of the Marketing team, PR/communication, partner strategy and other internal teams to build integrated plans that drive the brands of INDYCAR, our drivers, series partners and promoter partners. The role will oversee three (3) full-time direct reports and seasonal/part-time staff and external marketing agencies as needed.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

• Develop and oversee execution of digital strategy and consumer/fan experience in the digital ecosystem.
• Lead content strategy plan, across APP, social and web; with a focus on visual storytelling that is representative and connected to the INDYCAR brand voice and identity. Collaborate with Editorial Manager to ensure written and visual content aligned at strategic and executional level.
• Work with Sales and Partner Strategy team to identify opportunities to create (and sell) digital content assets to series partners; partner to incorporate partner assets into content plans to promote products and services.
• Direct content creation thru collaboration process and lead evaluation to continually evolve content performance and editorial plan against objectives.
• Day-to-day contact with IMSP for assigned Marketing projects and deliverables; continue to explore creative opportunities and budget management with IMSP partners.
• Partner with APP/Web Manager, IT and NTT partners to create long-term road map for consumer/fan engagement thru our owned channels.
• Support VP Marketing with on-going partnerships with key partners: NBC Sports/Gold Pass and NTT to realize partner goals and objectives while leveraging partnership to meet and exceed INDYCAR goals.
• Build relationships with key INDYCAR car stakeholders, including cross-functional colleagues, owners/teams, drivers, sponsors and race promoters to build integrated and cohesive marketing plans to advance a collective vision for the sport and the industry.
• Partner with IMS colleagues to build integrated content and paid media plans to promote the INDYCAR Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the entire Month of May – to leverage the sport’s biggest stage to advance the series’ broader objectives.
• Coach and mentor direct and in-direct reports: develop direct reports’ individual development plans with measurable goals, assess, address and recognize performance in an on-going manner.
• Able to travel to all INDYCAR Series races and requested off-site shoots, appearances, meetings and events as defined by VP of Marketing and other departments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Supervisory Responsibilities

Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or other relevant field or equivalent experience required.

Skills/Experience
• 10+ years of marketing/communications/digital experience, preferably in sports, entertainment or advertising
• Ability to demonstrate understanding of the ever-changing digital landscape and storytelling with this space to engage consumers/fans.
• Track record of success in functioning as a key member of a management team, contributing strategic thinking and leadership skills necessary to operate at the highest levels of an organization.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, comfort with ambiguity, ability to manage change and balance competing/evolving priorities.
• Must possess strong drive and perseverance despite obstacles or political adversity, willingness to speak up and share opinions, be comfortable and self-confident, yet demonstrate a proper level of humility.
• Familiarity with consumer promotional programs, retail promotional programs and sport entities preferred.
• Innovative thinker and self-starter with perseverance to lead teams to success.

• Ability to work in high-paced environment and on short deadlines.
• Effective communication skills.
• Flexibility of work schedule to support the Digital Media, Marketing and Communications staff as required.
• Knowledge of Motorsports, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, INDYCAR Series, and other related activities.
• Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.); Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc.) and Final Cut Pro knowledge preferred.

Travel/Work Hours
• This job requires travel to INDYCAR Series events. When not traveling, there will be weekend and holiday work when race events are held.

• Occasional work outdoors requires physical strength and stamina to endure extreme heat, cold, rain and other conditions.
