Development Engineer

Responsibilities for this position will pertain to development department’s projects, testing, and relevant communications. Projects will be led by this individual from conception to completion and will involve significant planning, report-writing, coordination, and data analysis. This position additionally requires the operation of test equipment and machinery to conduct tests designed by the individual in this role. They will be required to research and develop engine improvements on the core engine and to ancillary components and assemblies. Next they continue by characterizing engine durability and performance to set the direction for future development. Finally, reports must be created to present project and testing results to relevant departments. Success in this position is dependent upon sound judgement and decision-making skills as the ideal candidate evaluates, recommends, and implements effective and efficient test procedures.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position include:

  • BS degree (or equivalent work experience) in Mechanical Engineering
    • With an emphasis on internal combustion and associated coursework in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics
  • 3-5 years’ experience with development and testing of engines including:
    • Test planning and procedures
    • Data acquisition and analysis
  • Engineering discipline knowledge:
    • Control systems
    • Thermodynamics
    • Fluid dynamics
    • Statics and dynamics
    • Internal combustion engine fundamentals and theory
  • Microsoft Excel skills (including writing VBA subroutines/code/macros)
  • Experience modifying ECU calibration values to achieve improved engine performance, emission, or reliability
  • Direct experience using National Instruments and/or Matlab for managing, analyzing, and reporting data during simulations and data acquisitions
  • Experience with Ricardo WAVE or Gamma Technologies GT-POWER engine performance and gas dynamics simulation software
  • Data summarization and reporting experience
