Development Engineer

Pratt Miller is looking for an experienced Development Engineer to join its Motorsports business unit as part of the Motorsports Technology Group. The Development Engineer role will work across our motorsports programs (IMSA, Corvette, NASCAR, IndyCar) to develop advanced software tools, operational methodology, and physical systems to advance Pratt Miller’s competitive advantage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Software Tools Development

  • Work with the Motorsports Technology Group members and the Software Engineering Developers to create tools and workflows to improve the efficiency and decision-making power of the race engineer
  • The balance of providing subject matter expertise and writing prototype code will depend on the project and resources available
  • Provide quality assurance support through testing of the Pratt Miller tool suite
  • Work with the end user (internal or external) to gain feedback and translate this feedback into action items for the team. This may require travel to the racetrack or team facility to work one-on-one with the customer

Application Support

  • Develop subject matter expertise in the tools and methods developed by the Motorsports Technology Group
  • Assist in setting up and running of the Pratt Miller tool suite for new and existing customers
  • Provide support in tools application to best suit the customer and deliver performance through use of the tools

Advanced Project Work

  • Work with the Motorsports Technology Group and customers (internal or external) on advanced development projects. These may be virtual (i.e. simulation, processes, etc.) or physical (i.e. component development, vehicle testing, etc.)
  • Typically, these projects will be short term “special projects” that require additional resource or capability not within scope for the customer

General Group Development

  • Work with your peers in the Motorsports Technology Group to develop new concepts with the goal of staying one step ahead of the competition and delivering performance to our race teams
  • Participate in development of the Motorsports Business Unit “Road Map” which guides development priorities
  • Participate in meetings to support the Motorsports Technology Group and any active projects

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required:

  • Support Pratt Miller initiatives, marketing events, and general development as necessary
  • Provide feedback on product needs and processes

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Desired Education:

  • 3 years or greater of motorsports experience with a focus on vehicle performance, simulation, and software tools. Candidates with experience in a related field with a strong interest in motorsports will also be considered.
  • Prior experience as Race Engineer, Assistant Race Engineer, or Performance Engineer is desired
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, data manipulation, and data analytics is desired
  • BS (MS Preferred) in an applicable engineering field (Mechanical, Software, Computer, Electrical, Controls, etc.)

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Stress may occur periodically
  • Long hours may be required at times
  • Travel of up to 60% is required
