Designer - Car Handling

The team behind 2020’s acclaimed Dirt 5 are looking for someone with a passion for game design and particularly vehicle gameplay. Does the car feel great when drifting around the corners? How does the vehicle respond to damage? Are you feeling the right levels of responsiveness and feedback from the controller? These are just some of the variables that a car handling game designer is expected to consider and work on. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a passion for motorsport and racing games, looking to apply their knowledge and expand upon this with the backing and support of a highly experienced team. You will be responsible for:

  • Gameplay balancing using editors, debug tools & direct modifications to the game code or assets
  • Understanding the interplay between core gameplay systems such as vehicle behaviours, camera & controls and use such systems to create the desired gameplay experience
  • Technical problem solving
  • Collaboration and interaction with the team and other departments (e.g. Physics, Level Design)
  • Presenting latest work to members of the team and demonstrating progress to key stakeholders

Some key skills & experience you will need:

  • In-depth knowledge and enthusiasm of the games industry and able to demonstrate this (project/portfolio examples)
  • Experience of using game engines (Unity/Unreal/CryEngine) and general game creation tools
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and not be afraid to present to a wider audience
