Cost Engineer

Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role)

To provide 'Should Cost' support, analysis and target setting to Project and Procurement functions to enable achievement of project cost targets and support 'Value for Money' (VFM) selection of suppliers. This role is vital in support of Lotus' renewed Product Offensive. It will enable us to deliver our new Projects in line with our budget requirements, profitability targets, and our commitments to our largest shareholder, Geely Group.  

Cost Estimation or 'Should Cost' (SC) reports and variance analysis: this includes full bottom-up costing for piece cost and tooling as well as QaF analysis and ‘what-if’ scenario modelling to support future Project direction. Supplier negotiation input and travel to suppliers in support of Supply Chain will be required, as well as a willingness to help steer the Project Teams in the right direction during the target setting process and through to supplier nomination and beyond.

Quick turnaround with a repeatable high-quality result will be the key; to this end, the Company has implemented a World Class third party Cost Estimation Software System: Your role will be instrumental in helping to set-up and integrate this system into our way of working (full training to be supplied by software supplier) and help build our new Cost Estimation function from the ground, up, into something we can all be proud.

The role will require an extensive knowledge of a variety of Automotive Vehicle systems and components, this will include:

  • Method of Manufacture
  • Material types & specifications
  • Low Volume vs High Volume manufacturing methods to allow cost benefit analysis
  • Supply base and low-cost country alternatives

As such, demonstrable Experience of Estimating some or all of the following is required in relation to major structural assemblies and full body structures:

  • Metal Forming/ Processing:
  • Extrusions
  • Anodising
  • Pressings
  • Forgings
  • Castings
  • Joining techniques

Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)

Essential:

  • Engineering or Manufacturing qualifications by experience
  • Bottom-up Costing
  • QaF analysis
  • Computer Literate
  • Good Excel skills
  • Experience in Automotive 
  • Manufacturing Parts Processes
  • Self-starter
  • Driver not a passenger
  • Good organisation skills

Desirable:

  • Engineering based degree
  • Supplier Negotiation
  • Costing Software Packages (e.g. aPriori)
  • CAD/ Catia parts viewers
