Your responsibilities

Our Controls Engineers provide support, leadership and direction to the Engineering Team in the development of standards and specifications as it pertains to new equipment and to Maintenance Technicians on the controls function for the Maintenance Department.  The Controls Engineer will design, develop, deploy and enhance process control systems and optimization of process equipment for improving quality and capacity.

  • Supports engineering in the development of standards and specifications as it is related to controls systems
  • Provides technical support for controls systems during the introduction of new equipment
  • Leads equipment assembly and installation
  • Provides technical support to the plant for resolving PLC, weld controls and robotic systems
  • Schedules and completes back-ups of all electronic machine control and robotic programs on a set schedule
  • Provides training, leadership and direction to maintenance personnel during equipment downtime situations, and coordinates with the production management team
  • Assists in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing production equipment
  • Work with process/product engineering to make necessary changes to equipment for improvements, product changes and new product launches
  • Develops programming and equipment standards for PLC and automated systems
  • Maintains the upkeep of process control computers, software licensing agreements, and backups of software files to minimize the downtime of manufacturing equipment
  • Develops and upgrades electrical controls for manufacturing equipment
  • Designs, troubleshoots and assists in repairing of electrical controls
  • Develops and debugs PLC/PC programs for new equipment and upgrades
  • Manages projects including cost estimation, timing, and scheduling to improve equipment productivity and capability
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required preferably electrical or mechanical
  • Proven experience as an Instrument and Control engineer in an engineering firm, process or power plant, or     some combination thereof required
  • Experienced and knowledgable of various DCS & PLC systems, I/O list required
  • Strong experience in all design aspects inclusive of P&IDs, instrument ISA data sheets, instrument installation details, low voltage wiring, physical conduit routing and cable tray design, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams and schematics including motor control
  • Experience in preparation of purchase specifications for instrumentation and controls
  • Experience with three phase power engineering including development of single line diagrams, selection / specification of electrical equipment
  • Experienced in system operating descriptions
  • Experience with distributed I/O
  • Experience with plant control system DCS network architecture/communication protocols
  • Experience performing vendor data sheets, drawing reviews and identification and implementation of tie-in points
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger group is a must
  • Solid understanding of computer programming and software development
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests
  • Experience in HMI, PLC, SQL, Vision Systems, and Microsoft office computer and software
  • Can demonstrate a full understanding of electrical, pneumatic, P&ID diagrams, tags and symbols
  • Understands electrical schematics, including motor control, and can perform markups
  • Prior work experience with Rockwell RSLogix/Studio 5000, Siemens Step7 and TIA Portal, Fanuc, and other Ethernet controls systems
  • Experienced in creating, reading, understanding and modifying electrical prints and specifications
