Controls Designeer II

Jacobs Technology is looking for a Designer to work in the Tullahoma TN office.

This position requires a motivated candidate that is team-oriented, organized, able to communicate effectively to all levels of individuals within an organization and able to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment. The designer works as part of one or more project teams and is required to report status of present work.

Duties will include:

  • Provide general assistance to technical personnel and engineers
  • Perform AutoCAD drafting for Control and Data Acquisition projects
  • Generate drawings and drawing packages from scratch using Jacobs CAD Standards.
  • Create panel layouts following either company standards or customer standards
  • Design equipment plan views for electrical and instrumentation locations
  • Design detail views and section cuts
  • Create wiring diagrams including use of the “snap to grid” tool and object libraries
  • Create drawing indexes following company standards for index generation.

Note: Specific experience in all duties listed above is not a prerequisite as some of these skills will be developed through specific project assignments and on-the-job training.

Most of your designs will be unique, and you will usually be working on several projects at one time in a dynamic, challenging, and even fun environment. This position will provide you with an exciting opportunity to work with a team of motivated professionals. We are looking for a designer who will work to ensure client satisfaction and deliver projects within scope, budget, and schedule.

Candidate must have certification of two (2) years training from vocational school or two (2) years of college with courses relevant to drafting or engineering principles, plus a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience. Additional relevant education may be substituted for a portion of the progressive experience.

Candidate must be experienced with the use of Microsoft Windows based PCs and AutoCAD computer aided design software. The successful candidate will have an interest and background in electronics and instrumentation, specifically in control and data acquisition. Candidate must have the ability to read, understand, and create electrical controls and instrumentation wiring diagrams, panel layouts, equipment plans, and the like.

Must have the ability to work within a team environment. Must have the ability to organize work tasks, communicate with customers and suppliers, and be able to lead drafting related activities.

  • Must maneuver in and around facility equipment while obtaining field measurements and documenting as-built conditions. 5%
  • May bring candidate in proximity of extreme temperature variations, rotating equipment, and high noise levels. <5%
  • Will likely be in proximity of electrical and other hazards. Appropriate PPE must be worn and may include eye protection, hearing protection, and arc flash protection. 5%

Description of Work Environment

  • Work will mainly be performed inside in office or lab environment. 90%

  • Travel will be required to attend customer meetings and perform field work. 10%
