Control Systems Engineer

We have an exciting opening for a Control Systems Engineer to join the Performance Department at Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix and contribute to a variety of projects across F1 and our expanding customer business.

 

As a member of the Controls group you will develop and make use of a variety of simulations to investigate improvements to the control system contributing to car performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain models to allow control system investigations to be undertaken
  • Develop control algorithms to solve complex problems
  • Ensure ongoing quality and correlation of the simulations against track and rig data to ensure validity of the simulation results.
  • Introducing new ideas, technologies and solutions to continually improve the team’s control system simulation capabilities.

The role is suited to candidates with professional experience in a relevant field.

 

Essential

  • Strong degree with high level of mathematical and physical system focus, e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Control Engineering or related subject.
  • Highly proficient in MATLAB, Simulink and Stateflow, with a detailed understanding of model-based design
  • Excellent core knowledge of state space methods, modern control/estimation theory and numerical techniques
  • Have a methodical, data driven approach to problem solving using a variety of tools and data sources

Desirable

  • Experience of developing and supporting real-time control system platforms (e.g. dSPACE, Beckhoff, Speedgoat)
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and power units.
  • Experience of building mathematical models through system identification.
  • Relevant experience in non-linear programming techniques and optimal control.
  • Ability to write performance oriented code for real-time algorithms implementation.
