Contractor Senior Powertrain Design Engineer

  • Mechanical design of one or more powertrain systems and development on and off vehicles (motorsport or automotive).
  • Liaise closely with the electrical & chassis engineering teams to ensure the design is optimised at a vehicle level.
  • To carry out calculations as required to ensure safe, reliable operation while meeting the specified design performance criteria.
  • Resolution of design & functionality issues liaising with external clients & internal colleagues
  • Consider issues of Design for Manufacturability, Assembly & Test.
  • Lead and manage small powertrain projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ensure engineering activities are captured and scheduled in line with project timescales and costs.
  • To fault find and resolve concerns in a timely and effective manner.
  • Analysis and report of design integrity (Tolerance stacks, Clearance checks, hand stress calculations etc.)
  • To be an effective member of the Powertrain team and ensure safe, reliable right first time designs are created.
  • To record and document the development progression of all aspects of RML powertrain testing.
  • To continuously improve RML’s capability to engineer Powertrains as per RML’s business requirements.
  • To prioritise and allocate project and personal 5Cs, and ensure efficient, accurate and robust solutions are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Effectively liaise with the necessary departments to identify test requirements, priorities and work schedule for RML’s powertrains.
  • To comply with RML’s health and safety policies and to meet current H&S legislation, ensuring that work is completed in accordance to safe working practices.
