Content Communications Intern

Hendrick Motorsports, a leading NASCAR Motorsports operation, is currently seeking a Content Communications Intern to complete a one-year assignment with the organization. In addition to the criteria listed below, we are interested in locating a candidate who has a strong interest in the public relations and/or digital media field. The role requires ingenuity; impeccable interpersonal communication skills; familiarity with Associated Press style and editing; excellent grammar and creative writing skills; an understanding of the existing and evolving digital media landscape; and the desire to learn and grow. Please note this internship is a 12-month opportunity in Charlotte, North Carolina, that will begin in January 2020.

The Hendrick Motorsports internship program provides a hands-on opportunity for recently graduated college students to build work experience and learn the behind-the-scenes operations of a professional sports team. Interns are exposed to various aspects of marketing and communications, including media relations; sports information; sponsorship activation and campaign development; digital content, including written pieces; social media management; and program measurement/analytics. Applicant placement is based on interest, experience, academic achievement and the organization’s business needs. To qualify for an internship position, recent college/university graduates must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. In addition, students must be available to work at least 30 hours per week including frequent weekend obligations.

Requirements:

  • Major in Communications, Journalism; Digital Media or a related field
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact well with others
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills; working knowledge of Associated Press style and editing
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Must be a team player, be able to work a flexible schedule and have a high level of integrity
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, priorities and deadlines
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel, and Adobe Photoshop is preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with team to maximize opportunities to promote and raise awareness of the team and its partners
  • Produce and publish professional-quality written material, including both short-form and long-form digital content, for the team’s website
  • Provide support to social media team by capturing and creating engaging social media content
  • Plan and execute media requests and events; work professionally with members of the media
  • Research and track media coverage on a weekly basis
  • Work with digital measurement tools and create detailed reports
  • Assist in the creation and editing of content for myriad forms of communication, including internal and external reports and newsletters
