NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Computational Fluid Dynamics/Aerodynamics Engineer based in Concord, NC.

The Computational Fluid Dynamics/Aerodynamics Engineer manages NASCAR's computational fluid dynamics programs and aerodynamics simulations from CAD generation to post-processing. This position will prepare detailed analysis of results and assist in wind tunnel testing for R&D and new vehicle submissions.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage CFD program working in conjunction with TotalSim USA.  Oversee execution of aero team concepts/requests from CAD to post-processing. Maintain various models for all three NASCAR national series’ for different purposes such as performance evaluation, liftoff, and thermal.
  • Assist in R&D wind tunnel testing activities, including vehicle preparation, prototype parts production, and data analysis.
  • Assist in new vehicle submission process.
  • Excellent communication skills required. 
  • Approximate travel 10%, including weekends.

Required skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree (B.Sc.), Master’s Degree (M.Sc. or M.S.E) preferred. Experience with CATIA, Beta CAE ANSA, OpenFoam, Siemens STAR-CCM+, ParaView or equivalent programs are highly desirable but not necessary. Automotive aerodynamics experience, particularly high performance or racing vehicles is desired. The ideal candidate would have an interest in race car aerodynamics and CFD and the role aerodynamics plays in a single vehicle system all the way up to a full field of race cars.
  • Strong fundamentals in aerodynamics and CFD, including understanding lift and drag, ground effect, and numerical aspects of simulation. Strong ability to interpret wind tunnel and on-car data.
  • Proficient on Company-provided hardware and software.  Experience with CATIA, Beta CAE ANSA, OpenFoam, Siemens STAR-CCM+, ParaView or equivalent programs are highly desirable but not necessar
