CNC Setter/Operator/Programmer - Tuning

Type of Position: Full time

Hours: 40 hours per week (flexibility required)

Monday to Thursday 07:30 – 16.30

Friday 07:30 – 14:00

Qualifications/Experience:

Essential 

An indentured apprenticeship or a minimum of 5 years’ experience at setter level with evidence of managing CNC operators and associated work. Strong positive motivated attitude, ability to work in high stress environment.

Desirable 

Aerospace or Motorsport experience of manufacturing precision components by CNC milling (3-5 axes). Knowledge of Fanuc controls.

Work Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Section Leader with Works Order Scheduling, Job Priority Progression and Output achievement.
  • Programming, setting, running & inspecting machined components for self and team member’s work to required drawings and specifications.
  • Provide Operations, decision making information by calculating production, labour and material costs.
  • Identifying tooling requirements for product manufacture.
  • Improve the efficiency of the operation in terms of quality, cost and delivery.
  • Activity participation in continuous improvement activities and process improvements.
  • Help mentor junior members of staff and other team members, to increase their knowledge base, thus raising their effectiveness.
  • You will be confident in your ability to:
  • Prepare CNC Programmes from planned processes, including:
  • Identifying tools, gauges, work holding and test equipment required
  • Production of set up sheets and tooling plans
  • Proving of Programmes into production
  • Writing and correcting Job Pack Routings
  • Setting of CNC machines
  • Working to correct tolerances
  • Ensuring inspection levels are adhered too including first-off inspection
  • Meeting production targets

Support and develop continuous improvement in the work place, including:

  • Make a positive contribution to maintaining a work place that is safe and to a 5S standard.
  • Inform the Operations Manager of any relevant problems that could affect the achievement.
  • Minor machine maintenance, cleaning machine and own area at end of your shift.
  • Maintaining high levels of quality and shop floor organisation.
  • Must adhere to ISO9001 2015 QMS, Route cards and work instructions.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety, COSHH and general good practice with housekeeping including company quality standards.
  • Actively involved in Lean activities, and apply 5S as a standard working practice.
  • All employees shall comply with EH&S Policy, report unsafe practices or conditions to supervision for prompt resolution, attend scheduled EH&S training programs, actively support the meeting of EH&S targets and plans, and recommend improved EH&S practices wherever possible.
  • Utilise every opportunity to improve margins through process improvement.
  • Ability to undertake other appropriate assigned duties, must have a can do/will do attitude. Be willing to learn and be part of the team

Person Specification:

  • Knowledge in a similar role with a good understanding of best industry practice.
  • HND in Engineering or related engineering field/experience.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma.
  • Able to perform under pressure.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined team.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing systems and knowledge of MRP/ERP systems would be an advantage.
  • An understanding and application of UK Health and Safety Legislation in a Manufacturing or Production environment including quality standards, best practice and procedures.
