CNC Honing Operator

CNC Honing Operator required with experience in setting and running both manual and CNC honing machines with a strong positive motivated attitude.

Work Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Section Leader.
  • Programming, setting, running & inspecting honed components to required drawings and specifications.
  • Support the identification of tooling requirements for product manufacture.
  • Improve the efficiency
  • Activity participation in continuous improvement activities and process improvements.
  • Help mentor junior members of staff and other team members, to increase their knowledge base, thus raising their effectiveness.

You Will Be Confident In Your Ability To

  • Setting and Operating Sunnen Vertical Honing Machines, including:
  • Identifying tools, gauges, work holding and test equipment required,
  • Proving of new jobs into production,
  • Setting of CNC Honing machines,
  • Working to correct and tight tolerances,
  • Achieve desired surface finishes and cross hatch angles/patterns,
  • Ensuring inspection levels are adhered too including first-off inspection,
  • Meeting production targets
  • Support and develop continuous improvement in the work place, including:
  • Make a positive contribution to maintaining a work place that is safe and to a 5S standard.
  • Inform the Section Leader of any relevant problems that could affect the achievement.
  • Minor machine maintenance, cleaning machine and own area at end of your shift.
  • Maintaining high levels of quality and shop floor organisation.

Must adhere to ISO9001 2015 QMS, Route cards and work instructions.

Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety, COSHH and general good practice with housekeeping including company quality standards.

Actively involved in Lean activities, and apply 5S as a standard working practice.

All employees shall comply with EH&S Policy, report unsafe practices or conditions to supervision for prompt resolution, attend scheduled EH&S training programs, actively support the meeting of EH&S targets and plans, and recommend improved EH&S practices wherever possible.

Person Specification:

  • Knowledge in a similar role with a good understanding of best industry practice.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma.
  • Able to perform under pressure.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined team.

Qualifications/Experience:

Essential -

An indentured apprenticeship or a minimum of 5 years’ experience at setter level. Precision Aerospace or Motorsport honing experience.

Hours: 40 hours per week (flexibility required)

Monday to Thursday 07:30 – 16.30

Friday 07:30 – 14:00
