Chief Project Engineer

ROLE:

The main purpose of this role is to act as a lead partner on behalf of Honda Motorsport operation group based in Milton Keynes (GROUP) to work with the allocated business partner (PARTNER) and feedback to Honda’s Power Unit (PU) development team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Senior contact for the PARTNER.
  • Control Honda development program for Power Unit for the PARTNER, provide technical updates for reliability and performance
  • Liaise directly with the PARTNER’s   Engineer in charge of the plan
  • Working with the relevant Department Manager, overview of PU operation and performance
  • PU utilisation, with respect to engine and the other elements
  • Manage the PU allocation for the PARTNER’s activities
  • Attend and take active part in the pre and post event meeting with PARTNER.
  • Summarise the running result of PARTNER’s cars, make a priority of any issue and improvement items for next steps to feed back to the Group
  • Daily report: create and report daily feedback information of activities for Honda Management and project members in Japan and UK.
  • Ensure  checks and feedback on test items for Dyno tests are performed which meet the PARTNER and Group requirements.
  • When required manage teams from the GROUP at specific activities.
  • Travel overseas and weekend work will be required
  • Any other reasonable tasks as required by the company

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Similar/Equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of Motorsport Power Units (e.g. trackside operations, engine development, engine calibration, direct injection) to identify and fix engineering issues
  • Ability to analyse data from PU reliability and performance aspect.
  • Moderate understanding of chassis dynamics to support engine configuration
  • Excellent document presentational skills
  • Familiar with analysis tools  such as ATLAS
  • Experience of working within a research and development environment related to Motorsports/High Performance Engineering
  • An adept communicator, able to build good relationships across all cultures both internally and externally
  • Fluency in spoken & written English is essential.
  • PC literate
  • Competence and ability to drive in the UK
  • Exposure/knowledge of Power Unit energy management (desirable)
  • Understanding Honda culture and philosophy (desirable)
  • Competence in Japanese or another European language (desirable).
