CFD Design Engineer

General Summary:

Creates and designs aerodynamic related components for Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) testing using CATIA software. Coordinates with CFD engineers and aero design group to maintain accurate CAD models for CFD analysis. Reports to Aerodynamic Design Group Manager.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create surface part and assembly CAD files for use in CFD testing using CATIA software.
  • Maintain accuracy of CAD files compared to parts on production race cars.
  • Be able to reverse engineer scan files to surface files for use in CFD model.
  • Maintain whole assembly of CFD CAD models to be consistent with CFD models in ANSA.
  • Propose new aerodynamic concepts in CAD to test for improving downforce, drag, and side force on race cars.
  • Surface models are to be, “watertight” meeting geometric requirements for ANSA, CFD software.
  • Surface models are to be divided into designated surface groups and named according to conventions.
  • Keep CFD CAD models current with NASCAR rule changes.
  • Assumes any responsibilities delegated by the Aerodynamic Design Group Manager or Aero Department Manager.
