CFD Applications Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for an CFD Applications Engineer.

Purpose

  • As a CFD Applications Engineer, you will be the link between CFD developers and aerodynamicists.
  • Working together with our CFD developers, you investigate avenues to improve the accuracy and efficiency of our CFD tools and processes.
  • Working alongside our aerodynamicists, guiding them in how best to use CFD.
  • To actively contribute to the Team’s primary objective of consistently being a top three team in the FIA Constructor’s Championship

Primary Responsibilities

  • To identify and resolve correlation issues between CFD, wind tunnel and track, with the aim to improve the accuracy of our analysis and development tools.
  • To progress analysis tools and develop new capabilities to improve our understanding and development rate.
  • To maintain and develop skill levels to industry standards and maintain current and thorough working knowledge of our analysis and development tools

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • Demonstrate an excellent knowledge of aerodynamic fundamentals, specifically bluff body aerodynamics.
  • A strong understanding of the practical and theoretical considerations with regards to meshing methodology, turbulence modelling, numerical stability, etc
  • To have a methodical approach to problem solving, specifically concerning correlation issues, and understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the three domains, i.e. CFD, experimental and track.
  • To be detail oriented and have a high working standard, achieving targets and deliver results within required timescales.
  • To be self-motivated and to motivate others to thrive in a challenging environment
  • To communicate effectively, positively and respectfully with all colleagues
  • To have a flexible attitude and ability to work as part of a team in a demanding and rapidly changing environment
  • The capacity for learning new engineering software quickly.
  • An excellent academic record in aerospace engineering or similar from a reputable college or university

Previous experience in a Formula One / high level Motorsport environment is desirable but not essential. Working knowledge of a programming languages is a plus.

The role will be based at the Silverstone Factory / Brackley premises however there may be a requirement to travel as and when requested to meet the requirements of the Company.
