Car Systems Technician

The position:

We are looking to recruit a Systems Technician who will work within Trackside Systems, responsible for the configuration, build and monitoring of the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems on Formula One cars, both at the Williams HQ and at Events around the world

Core competencies:

  • Ability to work within the systems group as a system technician where duties will include, but not be limited to; car build and sign off, both live and historic car data monitoring and analysis, in and post session management of on car systems including fault finding and reporting.
  • Support build specification process managed by Travelling Vehicle Design engineer, with responsibility for electrical hardware.
  • Supporting car build to the defined specification (Vehicle Design) and configuration (Race Engineering), observing the required hardware allocations.
  • Job list compilation both pre-and during an event, working with both engineering and technician teams to ensure that jobs are captured and completed as required across an event.
  • Provide support with reliability during events, liaising with colleagues in engineering as required.
  • Working with Williams Production, Systems Engineering and the Aero Performance group to deliver Instrumentation at events as specified.

*In compliance with national Secure Freight Consigner conditions, five years’ continuous employment, education and/or training must be evidenced and ay gaps exceeding 28 days accounted for. A criminal record check will also be carried out. This will be explained in more detail during interview.

Core Skills:

  • You are likely to hold a relevant qualification, either ONC, HNC, HND or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Fault find the above systems at a component level.
  • Have current working knowledge of McLaren Applied Technologies hardware and software.
  • Have a flexible mindset with a can-do approach
  • Work in a Team environment often to tight time scales.
  • Willing to travel to Race and Test Events as required.
