Motorsport is a great challenge and opportunity for a CAD Applications Specialist, especially in Formula 1! Performance development is the key for clever engineers who are also motivated to work in a smart design office environment such as the Haas F1 Team.
Working within the cross-functional Programme Management Group, this position reports to the Global Programme Manger or their designee and is located in Maranello Italy. Primarily responsible for supporting CAD Design Engineers in both the Aerodynamics and Full-Scale Design departments to resolve user questions and problems around the operation of the companies PLM platform – 3D Experience.
Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
Provide expert assistance to Haas Design Engineers in how best to use 3DX functionality to support the generation of complex 3D Models and 2D Drawings associated with a Formula1 Car.
Working with the CAD Methodology Manager to help develop 3DX solutions that will lead to more efficient and effective ways of working.
React to issues and questions from 3DX Users and provide pin-point solutions to help maintain the high volumes of operational throughput.
Collate issues from business users, look for issue trends and react by providing methodologies that will address these issues, deploying them with a combination of user documentation, user demonstration or more formal education sessions.
Support the regular Key User group in addressing issues raised by them in line with their operational priorities.
Work with the PLM Manager to ensure that any major changes in methodologies and use of the application, support the intentions of the Haas PLM Strategy.
Help develop a set of 3D Modelling and 2D Drawing Standards appropriate for the Aerodynamics and Full-Scale design departments
Establish a set of 3D and 2D Design checks that ensure that the quality of the data generated conform to the Haas CAD Standards.
Manage and Maintain a set of 3DX “Hints and Tips” and connect users to them, revise these at the points of new software upgrades and releases.
Maintain a 3DX Licence allocation matrix and ensure that licences are correctly allocated to users in-line with their functional requirements whilst also considering the availability within the licence portfolio.
Work with IT to develop a 3DX Broadcast solution that will ensure that users have taken note of any relevant application or methodology changes that need to be adhered to.
Other duties as assigned by their Manager.

Education and Work Experience:
GCSE, High School diploma or equivalent required.
Further education including University Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering (or similar discipline) is required.
Preferably 6 years of experience in automotive, motorsport, aerospace or a similar industry as a member of a digital engineering department or IT/software development department.
Prior experience in Formula One or any motor racing team is advantageous.
Minimum 4 years’ experience working with CATIA V5 is essential, ideally with 2 years’ experience of working with CATIA V6 or 3DEXPERIENCE.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills as needed to support business users under pressure, providing solutions in a calm, yet efficient and thorough way.
Demonstrable experience of using and supporting users with CATIA V5 or ideally CATIA 3D Experience within a Design Office environment is essential.
Technical background in CAD, ideally CATIA V5, V6 or 3DX, a good understanding of the setup, configuration and standards of CATIA.
Experienced in user support including solution demonstration and education.
Composite, Mechanical, Automotive or Aeronautical engineering background required to ensure data can be related to engineering situations.
VBA programming experience combined with the development of CAD automations using Visual Basic or CATScripts is advantageous but not essential.
Understanding of digital engineering is beneficial.
Needs to be proactive, flexible, organized and able to prioritize own workload.
Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in a scientific and analytical way.
Work well in a team environment with personnel at all levels.

Equipment and Applications:
Solid Microsoft and PC knowledge with experience in Microsoft Office products is essential.
Some experience of customizing and configuring PLM systems such as ENOVIA, Windchill or Teamcenter.
A good understanding of core process mapping methodologies and ways of aligning this to the technical solutions in use.
Awareness of database operations and methods for data extraction and interaction.
Ability to prepare and present effective presentations of complex subjects to a diverse audience.
Ability to quickly turnaround pinpoint solutions to improve operational efficiency
