Job Description

Job Title: Automation Tech - Maintenance
Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Job Statement

Position is responsible for all facility equipment repairs and improvement projects as assigned by Maintenance Manager.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical repairs to various equipment including 5500 ton forge presses;
  • Perform Mig & Tig welding;
  • Repair control systems using PLC’s, switches, sensors, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics; fabrications, modifications, and other control systems/processes;
  • Maintain and repair machines, building equipment, material handling equipment, etc. relating to equipment problems using repair orders, repair manuals, spare parts lists, drawings, diagrams, handbooks, technical bulletins, and general direction;
  • Perform rigging and lifting;
  • Instruct operators as necessary for proper equipment care or operation to reduce machine or equipment abuse and reduce downtime;
  • Advise supervision as to replacement/fabrication material and parts needed;
  • Work with maintenance technicians, electricians, machinists, and/or toolmaker/machinists as necessary to make repair parts, fabrications, modifications, etc.;
  • Work with sub-contractors as assigned;
  • Report unusual or unsafe conditions to supervisor;
  • Maintain accurate and timely timekeeping on computer system;
  • Maintain work area(s) in a clean, safe, and orderly manner;
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations;
  • Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment. Follow policies, programs, and procedures for the reduction and elimination of work related accidents and provide feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions.

Requirements:

For an individual to perform this job successfully, one must be able to perform the duties described above satisfactorily, as well as work closely with Team Members as needed to accomplish the task at hand. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, competency and/or ability required to fulfill these duties. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experiences

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Ability to weld Mig & Tig;
  • Fabrication skills required;
  • Experience in various equipment repairs including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic required;
  • Minimum 5 years mechanical experience required;
  • Mechanical and screw press experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions;
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to schedules;
  • Ability to read a tape measure;
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office programs;
  • Ability to work safely and keep area clean;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with all levels of the organization;
  • Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills;
  • Able to communicate clearly, concisely and achieve intended objectives;
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all weather conditions.

Physical Demands 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand or walk for an 8 hour shift. Position requires frequent twisting, turning, reaching, bending, pulling and pushing. Position frequently requires climbing, stooping, and crouching. The employee must be able to handle up to 100 lbs on a regular basis throughout the 8 hour shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Working conditions include exposure to extreme temperatures (heat) and humid conditions, dirt, airborne particles and noise.
