Apprenticeship Opportunities

Williams are recruiting for exciting apprentice opportunities across our operations and aero department. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who have a passion for engineering, along with the confidence, belief and determination to succeed in a company that offers variety, interest and responsibility with great engineering prospects for the future.

Williams are currently seeking five apprentices in the following areas:

1 x Model Shop

As a modelmaker, you’ll be part of a team involved in the manufacturing and testing of the Wind Tunnel scale model for aerodynamic development. You’ll use a multitude of materials from machined aluminium and carbon fibre, to Rapid prototypes plastics to build high quality test models, while using various Inspection tools to ensure model accuracy for testing you’ll follow through into the Wind tunnel.

1 x Inspection

As an Inspection Apprentice you will be trained and developed to use a variety of measurement tools and techniques, to check parts for conformance to specification and learn to perform other metrology and analysis tasks. You will be involved in the inspection of components and processes from both Metallic and Composite manufacturing, while also developing a knowledge of Quality Management and improvement processes.

1 x Machine Shop

As an apprentice machinist, you will be trained and developed to manufacture high specification components in a range of ferrous and nonferrous materials using 3 and 5 axis machining centres which are supported with Siemens NX CAM and Vericut verification software.

1 x Composite

Composite apprentice will be in the Composites department and will be trained and developed with a focus on laminating and working on a wide range composite parts. This requires attention to detail, you will be trained on understanding technical drawings and deliver exceptional quality parts.

1 x Pattern Shop

Pattern shop apprentice will be based within the Pattern Shop and will be trained and developed manufacturing/finishing handmade patterns to the standard required for the part that is to be manufactured from its mould.

This is a 4-year Apprenticeship where you will attend OAS in Culham in which you will graduate as an Engineering Technician. You can find out more information about OAS over at: https://www.oas.ukaea.uk/ .

As part of your first-year training you will attend OAS full time with some keep in touch days held here at Williams. At the end of your first year at college you will then return and do block release to attend college, at this stage in some areas you will be expected to become part of the teams shift pattern which we will give you more information about in the interview process.

We are interested in applicants from a variety of backgrounds, who are committed to pursuing vocational qualifications in engineering. A minimum 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above is required including Maths and English. A keen interest in engineering is vital to be successful in this position so please do advise on your CV of any hobbies or extracurricular activities which would help support your application. Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, you will receive support accordingly; this is including regular performance evaluations with the nominated manager to aid professional and personal development. Successful applicants will be able to communicate effectively, have a positive attitude to work and a mature outlook. A flexible attitude to work and hours is essential, as well as being a good team player.

Closing date is Monday 2nd March - Initial assessment centres will be during the week commencing 16th of March, with a college starting September 2020. Please make sure you are available to attend a whole day assessment this week (16th - 20th March 2020) as we will not be able to assess outside of this.
