Aerodynamic Design Engineer

Creates and designs aerodynamic related components for Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) testing, wind tunnel testing, and race car production using CATIA software. Coordinates with internal CNC machine shop, 3D printers, and vendors to produce parts based upon approved designs. Reports to Aerodynamic Design Group Manager.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create a surface part and assembly CAD files for use in CFD testing using CATIA software.
  • Create solid part CAD files to be 3D printed for wind tunnel testing.
  • Create solid part CAD files for the purpose of producing these parts for production using internal machine shop or outside venders.
  • Create part drawing CAD files for documentation and communication purposes.
  • Keep CAD models current with NASCAR rule changes, both for CFD testing and production.
  • Participate in wind tunnel tests as appropriate when parts designed are being tested.
  • Propose new aerodynamic concepts to test for improving downforce, drag, and side force on race cars.
  • Develop test plans and complete testing, if needed, on part designs to make into production parts.
  • Coordinate with fabricators in production to provide them with the fixtures, production parts, and templates that they need to be successful at their jobs.
  • Create body build spec documentation for use in production as needed.
  • Assumes any responsibilities delegated by the Aerodynamic Design Group Manager or Aero Department Manager.
