Account Director, Events - Sports and Entertainment

Reporting to the Vice President, the primary responsibility of this position is leading out on the strategy, planning and execution of VIP hospitality programs for a leading technology brand. Events range from multiday customer hosting programs at premier sporting events (Super Bowl, F1 Races, etc.) to Board of Advisor meetings across the globe. Overseeing a team of five, people management is just as important as project management. You’ll need to balance seeing the big picture with acute attention to detail. Experience in creating and executing complex, demanding VIP events for C-level executives is a must. Sport and entertainment experience is a plus, especially international motorsport, global football (soccer), NBA and/or Disney.

YOUR IMPACT 

  • Serve as day-to-day contact for key clients and stakeholders
  • Oversee all elements of client’s global hospitality programs, including hotels, venues, tickets, food and beverage, creative services, digital, transportation, amenities, uniforms, staffing, etc.
  • Intelligently and creatively integrate client’s brand and technology story into program elements
  • Develop and simultaneously manage multiple budgets and oversee forecasting, billing and reconciliation
  • Manage vendor relationships, including contracting, payments and oversight of the deliverables and quality of work
  • Manage team of junior staff including coaching and career development, program execution and developing key competencies
  • Create/refine processes and templates for program management as required
  • Create and maintain administrative documents for client reports and presentations, including proposals, POVs, recaps, agendas and timelines
  • Challenge traditional hospitality programming with fresh, innovative and creative best practice solutions
  • Onsite supervision/coordination of activation elements as needed to ensure successful execution
  • Develop/maintain a thorough working knowledge of event trends
  • Ability to travel internationally – up to 30% in busy season

YOUR EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; additional education in Business, Sports Management, Marketing, Tourism or Hospitality Management a plus
  • 7 – 10 years of experience in event or logistics management at an agency, brand or property
  • Previous C-Level Executive / VIP hosting experience required
  • Experience with large scale event management is mandatory, with a B2B focus an asset
  • Financially savvy with deep understanding of budget processes and experience managing P&Ls over $1M
  • Experience vetting and hiring vendors and staff
  • Must be a critical and creative thinker who challenges the norm
  • Meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills – remains calm under pressure
  • Composed and professional: daily contact with clients and stakeholders via face-to-face communication/presentations, email and phone
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Ability to work both at high quality and at a fast pace
  • Strong work ethic – collaborative team player who is proactive and driven, works well on a team or independently
  • Passionate and motivated with a positive attitude – solutions oriented
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
