Thermodynamicist

Renault Sport Racing have an excellent opportunity to join our team at a tremendously exciting time in our history within Formula 1. As we continue to grow as a team, we are looking for a highly talented individual to join our Aerodynamics department as a Thermodynamicist.

Thermodynamicist – The Role

The core responsibility of this position will involve generation and application of CFD methods to provide performance information, and to improve the design of various thermal-dominated components across the racing car. The areas of work are varied, but include charge-air and radiator internal and external flow modelling, engine exhaust flows and brake and electronics cooling. The work also involves provision of design guidance and performance information to the main design office, directly supporting the development of the race car design.

Thermodynamicist – The Person

The successful candidate will possess a PhD, or a good aerodynamic degree (or equivalent), with several years’ experience in a similar role. As such, they will be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding and experience of the challenges of modelling thermal flows within CFD and the trades between cooling and wider car performance. Experience of building CFD models from scratch using high-end CFD software (for instance Star-CCM+, Fluent, OpenFOAM) to model thermal dominated environments is a core skill. CATIA v5 skills would be beneficial in this respect, as would experience of the Ansa pre-processing software. In addition, a good, wider engineering appreciation of racing car design would be beneficial, in order to be able to discuss the implications of your work with the design office staff.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of creative thinking, and have demonstrated the ability to consistently deliver high-quality results, under pressure and within tight timescales.

Our offer to you

In return for your hard work and dedication we offer a team who is truly ambitious with their goals, with a unique and friendly working environment and competitive remuneration – including car schemes, pension, free onsite gym, subsidised canteen and many others.
