Technical Inspector

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Inspector to join our Design, Development and Engineering Centre based in Shalford, Surrey.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chief Engineer – Manufacturing, the primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that the iStream® superlight technology continues to be developed and matured from an technical and manufacturing perspective and provide support to GMD R&D team in order that the company can deliver Gordon Murray Group projects in a professional , cost effective and timely manner.

In this role, you will be expected to work with R&D and manufacturing teams on how to implement the iStream® superlight technology in practice. This will involve determining what technical data and information is required, support creating design and manufacturing guidelines for the production of vehicle structures manufactured from welded/joined Aluminium extrusions and castings by carry out inspection work and analyse the data. The person filling the role will be the expert within the company with respect to inspection and data analysis.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • It is anticipated that the applicant will have capability listed below:
  • Metrology, Inspection Methods and Equipment including measurement arm experience
  • Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Experience in macro checks of arc welding
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Working knowledge of problem solving methodologies e.g. 8D
  • Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment
  • Candidate would ideally have knowledge of welded Aluminium structures (structural) or /and composites (structural or visual/painted panels), bonding, plastic mouldings, exterior trim, as well as experience and knowledge in assembly processes.

  • Ability to present data effectively
  • Understanding of Health and Safety practices
  • Catia V5 (or alternative CAD system) viewer experience

Given the nature of the responsibilities detailed above, you will also need to be a good communicator and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications. You will also need to be organised, analytical and have a keen eye for detail. You should be a self-motivated individual capable of working under your own initiative as well as meeting tight deadlines as part of a team.
