Technical Buyer

The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team are joining forces with INEOS TEAM UK, as the Challenger of Record for the 37th America’s Cup competition. This project brings together two highly complementary spheres of high-performance, high-technology engineering and sporting challenge.  To strengthen our team, we are looking for a Technical Buyer with a background in top-level competitive engineering such as Formula One, America’s Cup or equivalent to join our technical group, based at Brackley.

 

Reporting to the Lead Technical Buyer, the Technical Buyer will be working within a highly skilled and motivated team that requires best practice purchasing techniques and supply chain development to meet the demands of the project schedule. This will range from sourcing high complex technical components within deadlines and tightly controlled budgets, to sourcing goods and services to support the business. The position holder will be required to work from the team’s technical base in Brackley, UK.

 

OVERALL PURPOSE

  • Procurement of team hardware (strong electronics bias) ensuring requirements on service, quality, cost, and delivery are met.

  • Responsible for communicating status of all procured services under their control with respect to project requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sourcing electronic components, demonstrating sound negotiation skills and financial awareness in the purchasing / manufacturing process for high complexity, engineered components whilst managing and working within the agreed budget, quality, and delivery targets.

  • Experience managing and keeping to tight cost targets but maintaining quality.

  • Working with the Programme Manager and Project Planner to ensure parts are delivered in line with the requirements of the programme and to the correct quality standard.

  • Support development of the AC/MGP team supplier portfolio.

  • Stakeholder engagement to effectively manage both external suppliers and internal customers while demonstrating effecting dispute resolution and conflict management.

  • Proactively managing the supply chain in terms of purchase orders and updating SAP and stakeholders as necessary.

  • Actively developing robust procurement and quality processes and aligning throughout the business.

  • Sourcing indirect goods and services to support the business.

  • Maintain and improve high performance relationship with suppliers.

Candidate Profile

  • The ideal candidate will have an enthusiastic and hard-working attitude and demonstrate this in their daily role, but also show exceptional supplier communication with a structured approach.

  • Possessing a strong electronics technical background and the ability to understand and discuss engineering drawings. A proven understanding of manufacturing processes being highly advantageous. Along with the ability to understand and discuss engineering drawings.

  • Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills, with the ability to quickly assess fair market price for desired services.

  • Experience of using SAP is preferable.

  • Flexibility in approach is required, along with appropriate supportive team behaviours, and the ability to work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

  • Ideally CIPS qualified and with proven experience of working in a dynamic engineering prototype (small batch) environment.
