Role Overview 

Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer of Vehicle engineering, this role will lead the attribute of Sustainability in-line with our corporate mission of making the world’s most sustainable vehicles. 

Activities include:

  • Defining material selection strategy and establishing sustainability targets
  • New suppler engagement and capability assessments
  • Conduct sustainability benchmarking and research activities
  • Material and processes assessments
  • Conduct product Life Cycle Assessments and simulations
  • Conduct recyclability and carbon footprint calculations
  • Develop sustainability roadmaps in-line with product portfolios
  • Lead sustainability cross functional team workshops (Design for Environment)
  • Identify and attend key events/seminars and report latest trends
  • Generate proposals and reports regarding the latest development is this field
  • Lead Recyclability, Reusability & Recoverability and End of Vehicle Life requirements
  • Creating compliance test reports and collating regulatory documentation
  • Work closely with design engineers, interpret regulations, offer expert opinions on design issues and record the key decisions
  • Develop and plan all required audits
  • Responsible for IMDS/CAMDS material compliance systems
  • Prepare necessary data management documents related to testing and certification
  • Interact with global regulatory bodies including NHTSA, EPA, EU type-approval agencies, Chinese test labs and others as required
  • Become the key point of contact for vehicle sustainability within the Fisker organization

Key Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in sustainability, environmental or materials engineering 
  • BSc Degree or higher in relevant subject i.e. Materials science, sustainability and environmental
  • Product delivery experience
  • An understanding of automotive environmental requirements would be an advantage but not essential. Non-automotive experience would be an advantage
  • Deep curiosity to understand the product and how the regulations may be applied
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with government authorities, suppliers and test labs
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and globally as required to support supplier development activities
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint

Additional Information

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run
  • Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends where needed to meet deadlines and company goals
