The staff accountant key role is to provide support to the financial department by managing daily accounting tasks. Preparing financial statements and reporting are a large part of the accountant’s day-to-day work, who must be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers and attention to details.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains financial records for subsidiary companies by analyzing balance sheets and general ledger accounts
- Maintains general ledger accounts by reconciling accounts receivable detail and control accounts; adjusting entries for amortizations prepaids; analyzing and reconciling retainage and accounts payable ledgers; preparing fixed asset depreciation and accruals
- Reconciles general and subsidiary bank accounts by gathering and balancing information
- Provides financial status information by preparing special reports; completing special projects
- Maintains accounting controls by following policies and procedures; complying with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements
- Corrects errors by posting adjusting journal entries
- Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines
- Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned
- Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
- Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
- Assist senior accountants in the preparation of monthly/yearly closing
- Assist with other accounting projects
- Secures financial information by completing database backups; keeping information confidential
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications
- Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience as an accountant
- Qualifications ACA, ACCA or CIMA
- NetSuite experience is preferred
- BSc/Ba in accounting or finance
- Excellent organizing abilities
- Great attention to details
- Good with numbers and figures and an analytical acumen
- Good understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant computer software
