Sporting Analyst and Lead Test Engineer

To help deliver against this global vision we are seeking a Sporting Analyst and Lead Test Engineer to join the Race Systems team at Formula 1.

Based at our Media and Technology Centre in Biggin Hill and reporting to the Head of Race Systems, the purpose of this role is to maintain, operate, facilitate, and develop the Formula 1 Sporting Services Systems Testing Environment  

Working with the Sporting Services Team the responsibilities of this role include:

  • Configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting in real time, the complex interdependent software programs that comprise the Formula 1 Sporting Services systems
  • Monitoring, validating, and editing the live acquired data with reference to the relevant sporting regulations per series
  • Ensuring that after each session all data is saved and archived according to F1procedures.
  • Generating, validating, and publishing any pre-event, live, post session and post-event timing, data, and analytical products to internal and external clients
  • Rigging and de-rigging the Formula 1 broadcast and data infrastructure at Grand Prix events,
  • Contributing to or document as necessary all activity during the Event, in the form of a Race Report and effectively communicate with your team, your Team Leader and Group Manager on all aspects of the operation.

In addition to:

  • Focusing on all aspects of testing, quality assurance and quality control of the interconnected software and electronics systems in use by the Sporting Services Team
  • Ensuring that all relevant documentation in relation to the generation of product specifications, test case and testing feedback is centrally stored and accessible
  • Liaising with the software and/or electronics developers/engineers to ensure that development of solutions is on time to meet operational requirements
  •  Initiating and taking ownership of system and testing procedures development to enhance the audience experience and understanding of Formula 1
  • Leading and/or assisting as necessary with designing and running simulations for system testing, development, and quality assurance purposes.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in Industry and consider how these may be incorporated into the Formula 1 Race Systems Timing, Data processing and Sporting Services operations.
  • Undertaking the collation and curation of the event archive, including the live historic database.

 

About You

With an analytical mind and a desire to interrogate systems and data, you will have:

  • A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade A*-C. (including Math’s and English), or equivalent
  • Experience of Software System Testing with a critical focus on meeting user specification/requirements
  • Software Quality Assurance / Quality Control experience
  • Authoring test strategies and test plans experience
  • Manual Testing Experience
  • Experience in the planning and utilization of cloud computing infrastructures
  • An ability to mentally process, interpret and visualise information from multiple sources in real time, and recognize errors and exceptions in this data and prioritise appropriate actions effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • An ability to remain focused for long periods of time
  • An ability to make accurate decisions under pressure
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts, practices and procedures (e.g., PaaS, IaaS)
