Software Engineer

Xtrac’s own range of gearboxes, controllers and actuators gives complete ownership of the mechanical hardware, electrical hardware, software and calibration of the gearbox package. This full system approach is an exciting and unique opportunity to work on cutting edge projects. You will be taking ownership of software development and calibration tasks, delivering work packages on time and in line with the specification, deriving new methods and tools whilst working alongside the mechanical design teams.

Reporting to the Senior Software Engineer within the Controls and Electronic Systems dept, you will assist in the timescale and resource planning of projects, ensure continual improvement in the analysis of Xtrac products and develop work tasks/write reports when appropriate. Travel will be required to support test rig and vehicle validation activities.

We are looking for high driven team player, organised and methodical with a passion for problem solving. You will have a Minimum of BEng or BSc (or similar), Degree or higher in mechanical, mechatronic, electrical, electronic or control system engineering and be an incorporated or chartered engineer, or actively striving to become incorporated or chartered.

With at least 4 years’ experience as a Software/Development Engineer in an automotive environment you will have the following skills and abilities:

  • Coding skills in more than one of the following languages:
  • C
  • C++
  • ESDL
  • Python
  • Model based design, simulation and embedded targeting using tools such as Matlab/Simulink (with Embedded coder or Targetlink) or ETAS ASCET
  • A strong communicator across a multi skilled organisation and especially in communicating technical ideas to staff members and to customers.
  • Organised with a structured approach to problem solving.
  • Application of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Excellent IT skills and a knowledge of Word and Excel.
