Simulation and Applications Support Engineer

The CoreSim team develops and maintains vehicle and composite model simulation applications to support both Pratt Miller internal programs and customers.

OVERVIEW:

The Simulation & Application Support Engineer will help develop and maintain leading-edge vehicle simulation and analysis products. These products include Dymola based multi-body modeling libraries and simulation software featuring vehicle and subsystem models for desktop simulations and XiL applications, standard and high-performance vehicle dynamics experiments, systems based composite model simulation, and vehicle dynamics analysis capabilities. The Simulation & Application Support Engineer will also interact with Pratt Miller customers and internal programs to support these simulation products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SKILLS:

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to all of the following:

Simulation Model Development & Support

  • Interact with customers and Pratt Miller internal programs to develop requirements for vehicle & subsystem models
  • Develop and maintain vehicle and subsystem models, experiments, and analysis techniques to sustain a high level of quality and simulation capability
  • Complete correlation and validation efforts of the vehicle and subsystem models
  • Provide vehicle dynamics and simulation subject matter expertise to internal engineers as well as customers

Simulation Application Design & Support

  • Integrate and maintain the simulation model and experiments in the simulation application environment
  • Interface with customers and Pratt Miller internal programs to support the Simulation Application products
    • Capture and anticipate feedback, requirements, and business needs and communicate these to development team
  • Assist with the design of new product features acting as the voice of the customer
  • Participate in regular product testing to ensure the development and release of high-quality software

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
  • At least 5 years professional or academic experience in automotive engineering and simulation

Required Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in the development and application of vehicle simulation toolsets
  • Solid vehicle dynamics background
  • Solid vehicle simulation background
  • Experience with vehicle analysis methods
  • Experience with multi-body simulation tools
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and/or Python
  • Ability to work independently and move projects forward with little direction
  • Willingness to independently learn and embrace new concepts
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills for communicating with other Pratt & Miller Engineering team members and customers

Preferred Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Vehicle development experience using full-vehicle simulation, high-performance vehicle development a plus
  • Experience with structured software development practices
  • Proficiency with simulation development in Dymola and/or Modelica
  • Experience with systems engineering and system simulation
  • Proficiency with C, C++, and/or C#

Physical Demands/Work Environment: 

  • Long hours may be required
  • Stress may occur periodically
  • Limited amounts of travel may be required

Expected Hours of Work: 

  • Minimum of 40 hrs/week, 8 hrs/day
