Senior Track Systems Technician

Our key to success is an organisation that values passion, integrity, and respect. To help deliver against this global vision we are seeking a Senior Technician to join the team ensuring the performance of the F1 digital ground-based video and telemetry system during F1 events.

Your work will be split between the Event Technical Centre at the race circuits, and our Media & Technical Centre in Biggin Hill. Whilst working at the events you will be responsible for deploying and commissioning communication links that support telemetry, onboard camera, and Team radio. When supporting events from the UK you will configure systems, monitor the incoming data, video and audio during testing and live sessions, working to the time-zone of the host country.

The role:

  • Commissioning trackside fibre and RF sites around Grand Prix circuits

  • Video and data signal analysis, optimising performance and ensuring a clean output

  • Tuning the installations for optimum performance

  • Testing and fault-finding optical/electrical/electronic systems using tools and measurement equipment such as spectrum analyser and OTDR

  • System deployment and retrieval: Rigging and de-rigging cables, commissioning and decommissioning of RF antennas (at heights up to 5m) using climbing safety harness.

  • Investigation and solving technical issues

About You

You’re self-driven, curious, hardworking and you thrive in a team. You face problems as challenges. You are analytical, a good communicator and remain calm under pressure. You’re not afraid of heights or flying. You enjoy frequent travel and would relish the opportunity to work long but rewarding hours at F1 racing circuits around the world.

You have:

  • ONC / HNC in an engineering related field (Electronic, Electrical and RF Comms) and / or experience undertaking a similar practical role

  • Experience working in a time critical and challenging environment to achieve specific objectives

  • A systematic approach to fault finding

  • knowledge of IP addressing TCP/IP communications

Desirable:

  • Experience in outside broadcast or similar industries

  • Knowledge of DVB-T and multicast video streaming

  • RF engineering and spectrum analysis

  • Understanding of Fibre Optics transmission principles or practical experience

  • Working at height and climbing
