Job description

Managing the workshop function at EDSL including all engineering resources within the operational workshop to ensure the provision of fit and serviceable vehicles.

To lead and manage the workshop function at EDSL & ensure the workplace standards are maintained at the highest level.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Allocation of workshop labour
  • Ensure customer cars and rental cars are full prepared in good time in accordance with rally schedule for each vehicle

  • Ensure that pre-event checks are carried out and that all work is completed to the highest standard and signed off by the mechanic completing the work

  • Ensure that EDSL vehicles and trailers are maintained according to manufacturer specifications and are always in a clean, road worthy condition

  • Responsible for ensuring all service vehicles are packed and contain the necessary parts to provide a high standard of customer service on event.

  • Responsible for ensuring sufficient staff are available on events to provide the required level of cover, and for the management of the team on events.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the premises are kept in a tidy and organised manner.

  • Purchase of all vehicle parts required in a timely fashion as and when necessary, and that stocks of consumable and life parts are maintained at a level to fit the car schedules.

  • Responsible for ensuring all stock is kept in a controlled and organised manner.

  • Ensure that all staff within the garage fully understand and comply with Company and statutory regulations, with regards to hours of work, health & safety and working practices.

  • To ensure vehicles and their records are maintained in accordance with all Company and statutory requirements.

  • Plan and oversee the maintenance of all workshop and site plant, equipment and premises ensuring all HSE legislation is adhered to.

  • Ensure health and safety standards are maintained/implemented throughout the workshop and other areas.

  • To act as the competent person in all Health and Safety matters within the engineering site and on event locations and to produce risk assessments, safe working practices, toolbox talks, PPE provisions along with any other Health and Safety related procedures as maybe required.

  • Manage engineering staff in the performance of their duties providing advice, guidance motivation, high performance levels, leadership and effective management as necessary,

  • To provide a high level of technical expertise and support to engineering staff, to ensure their skills and competence levels continually improve, and to identify training needs.

  • Ensure that no malpractice occurs in the established procedures, by monitoring and reviewing systems and practices.

Desirable skills

  • The ability to work flexible hours is required to ensure deadlines, and changes in business demands are met. Weekend working for on event support is essential.
  • Customer interface and assisting to grow the work through the workshop is part of this role.
  • Price and prepare written quotations with recommendations for customers prior to commencing work

Experience/ Qualifications:

  • Be experienced in engineering systems, processes procedures – Motorsport preferred
  • Be a strong leader; articulate, personable, well presented and able to liaise effectively with a wide audience.
  • Self-motivated and have the ability to interact with all EDSL employees in an objective and impartial way
  • Good communication skills both written and oral
  • IT skills (including Microsoft programmes; Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Good writing skills
