Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

General Summary: 

This position reports to the Head of Mechanical Design or his designee and is located in Italy. As part of the Design Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design of F1 chassis related components and mechanical assemblies. This includes project objective definitions, support of purchasing and quality control processes and interface with parts management on track, with a drive to the high performance and reliability of all parts.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Main activity consists of the design and development of F1 car related components and assemblies through solid modelling, surface modelling and 2D drawings with the aim of obtaining high performance, reliable solutions with dimensional optimisation.
  • Components involved might be (non exhaustive list);
  • Car suspension.
  • Wheel assemblies.
  • Car systems (hydraulics, fuel, brake and cooling systems).
  • Tooling to support part assembly and legality checking requirements.
  • Equipment supporting homologation processes both at factory and trackside.
  • Work with external design resources to ensure quality design and performance.
  • Work with external suppliers to resolve product quality issues.
  • Establish potential test procedures for quality assurance of finished products.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Education and Work Experience:

Must be graduate in Mechanical Engineering with more than 6 years of work experience, where at least two years must have been in a professional motorsports environment.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Communication, ability to work under pressure, self-motivation, time management, conflict resolution, adaptability, willingness to learn, etc.
  • Capable of working in a team environment to a very high standard and a positive work attitude.
  • Knowledge of the correct method to use tools and equipment.

  Equipment and Applications:

  • CAD Systems: CATIA V5/V.
  • PLM: Windchill/3DX.

 Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require occasional, domestic, travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
