Senior CAE Process Engineer

At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.

 

The Team has set a new benchmark for Formula One success during the sport’s current Hybrid era, winning consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the Constructors’ Championship in 2021.

 

As we continue to grow and diversify, we are looking for an experienced Senior CAE Process Engineer to join the team, reporting directly to the Lead CAE Process Engineer.

 

What we’re looking for:

The successful candidate will be involved in the definition and the implementation of the governing methods and processes oriented toward structural analysis applications, from modelling efficiencies to processing of results. They will possess an inherent ability to communicate directives and to oversee structural activities through the broad Design organisation.

With a strong academic background in mechanical engineering, they will need to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of Finite Element software and structural analysis methods with an emphasis on life and damage assessments, and on vibration dynamics. A very open-minded spirit and the ability to develop methods adapted to F1 specific requirements will be essential.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development, the deployment and the maintenance of structural oriented analysis tools (both CAE and hand calcs) for stress analysts and designers

  • Develop a relation of confidence and act as Stress technical support within the DO

  • Ensure the continuous improvement of simulation and analysis methodologies, and processes

  • Support the development of the Design material databases

  • Provide Stress analysis assistance to Design groups in critical design periods.

Candidate Profile:

As well as being a passionate and a hardworking team player, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • Mechanical engineering degree or similar qualification with a strong background in Finite Element methods and a broad knowledge of non-linear analysis techniques.

  • In-depth understanding in metallic and composites material characterisations, analysis and processing (NL, fatigue, failure prediction…) would be essential.

  • Knowledge in dynamic analysis fields would be an advantage

  • Proven experience in Hyperworks and Abaqus would be essential.

  • Knowledge in fatigue tools such as FE-Safe would be essential

  • Coding experience in Python and VBA would be essential, and in TCL desirable

  • Knowledge in optimisation tools such as Optistruct, Tosca, TruForm or OptiAssist would be an advantage

  • Experience of 3DX design is of benefit as well as proficiency in Excel

  • Excellent communicative and collaborative skills are essential
