Research and Development Technician

The position:

Within the Prototype and Test team, you will join the in-house research and development test facility which supports the Williams Group companies - more specifically in the Test Laboratory area. This part of the department provides all forms of factory-based component and vehicle testing support for both our racing activities (F1) and external projects for Williams Advanced Engineering.

Skills you'll use every day:

Reporting to the Test Lab Manager / Head of Prototype and Test you will primarily be part of a team of technicians working on component and systems testing for strength, durability and performance within our test laboratory area. Your main responsibilities will include: build, maintenance and operation of servo-hydraulics test rigs, supporting four post rig testing, problem solving, analysis of test data and technical reporting writing. Some foreign travel may be required depending on the project being worked on. You may also be called upon to support testing activities in the test cell area of the department and at external test facilities, depending on the department’s workload.

Core Skills:

As a Research and Development Technician, you will:

Be educated to HNC/HND or Degree level.
Have experience in a Formula 1/vehicle test environment.
Have excellent all-round practical skills to build test assemblies and rigs, including the ability to use machine tools.
Be familiar with MTS, Zwick Roell, Instron and Servotest testing equipment.
Have experience of servo-hydraulic test systems, data acquisition sensors and Matlab data processing.
