R&D Systems Engineer

Are you ready to be part of the best R&D team on the circuit? We have a fabulous opportunity to join our experienced and innovative research & development team as a R&D Systems Engineer.

Xtrac is the world’s leading design and manufacture of specialist transmissions. Our customers include the top motorsports racing series including Formula One, Le Mans, IndyCar and NASCAR and we also supply transmissions for the most exclusive high-performance cars in the world. We are at the forefront of a once-in-a-generation opportunity as the automotive industry transitions from internal combustion to electric and hybrid and our experienced and dedicated teams are using the latest cutting-edge technology to achieve this transition.

In this role, you will be involved in many elements and phases of transmission projects such as interfacing customer equipment to Xtrac data loggers or test rigs, whilst working alongside Xtrac engineers and customers to validate and develop new designs. As a result of working on many different projects you will gain exposure to a variety of transmission systems and architectures, and as such you’ll have the opportunity to build a wide range of knowledge.

You will be relied on for your electrical and electronics engineering skills, gaining a large amount of experience in mechanical engineering and providing guidance on the application of sensor technologies and problem solve issues as they arise.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Supporting customer issue resolution.
  • Working closely with Design Engineers and Technicians to inform, educate and resolve issues.
  • Designing, manufacturing, and assembling safe and certified electrical / electronic modules and test equipment.
  • Undertaking condition assessments of electro-mechanical assemblies returned to Xtrac to support product development.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree level education in an engineering related discipline or be qualified by experience in a similar role.
  • Sound knowledge of vehicle and transmission systems
  • Good understanding of electronics design, reverse engineering, modification and fault finding.
  • Knowledge of vehicle communication protocols such as CAN including associated development/diagnostics tools.
  • Working experience of Machinery Directive and PUWER.
