Racing Services Manager

Position Overview:

AMP Kart Racing is seeking an experienced manager to drive our karting mechanical and racing instructional services, in order to propel us into our next phase of growth. As a key member of our senior leadership team, your role will be to manage all mechanical services within our race kart workshop that services our members and racers, and to provide us with a high performing and reliable Sodi kart fleet for our concession kart customers. You will lead your team in providing advice and recommendations for repairs and upgrades to race kart customers, ensuring that mechanics are servicing billable hours, and driving sales of kart parts and chassis through the race kart workshop. You will also manage and lead our team of karting instructors, who provide racing instruction for all ages through our Kart Schools, small group and private sessions.

The ideal candidate will have an upbeat attitude and excellent communication skills, with a proven track record of leadership and staff management. This person will have a strong work ethic and lead by example, who can ensure high levels of effectiveness and efficiency, and is able to maximize productivity within their team while having fun. We are looking for an adaptable team player with outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to manage a variety of demands in a fast paced and dynamic work environment.

This position includes Manager on Duty responsibilities, and requires open availability for both weekday and weekend work.

Job Description & Duties:

Race Kart Workshop:

  • Run a clean and organized workshop, maintain and improving processes and procedures, utilize and develop ‘paperwork’ trail for ensuring jobs are completed in a timely manner
  • Manage all kart racing mechanics and race kart tuners; includes training, scheduling, allocation of jobs and work on-shift, tracking all work completed and ensuring quality control, managing mechanics billable hours and allocation of commissions
  • Be the foremost expert and lead by example in race kart tuning and set up, kart building (new and used), gearing and carburetor tuning, and kart seat installation
  • Ensure that all work is properly quoted and billed to customers, train staff to recommend work to be completed and potential upgrades, ensure that payments are collected and bills are paid in full prior to release of karts back to customers
  • Manage maintenance of AMP-owned rental race karts used for karts rental, private instructions, and kart schools. Quote repairs for any damages sustained, ensure payment is collected and work is completed prior to storage.
  • Manage unracking and reracking services for Kart Storage clients, ensure that karts are fully inspected after use and any necessary/recommended work is quoted, approved, billed and completed prior to reracking of kart
  • Oversee required parts inventory and work with Inventory Manager to ensure that necessary supplies are kept in stock, including replacement parts, hardware and lubricants
  • Build and maintain relationships with members, racers and vendors, manage services@ampkartracing e-mail, and be responsive to phone calls and messages

Sodi Concession Kart Workshop:

  • Manage all concession kart and small engine mechanics; includes training, scheduling, allocation of jobs and work on-shift, tracking all work completed and ensuring quality control
  • Be the foremost expert and lead by example in concession kart maintenance; focussing on both preventative maintenance and repairs, engine tuning including valve adjustments and carburetors, frame straightening and alignment
  • Oversee required parts inventory and work with Inventory Manager to ensure that necessary supplies are kept in stock, including replacement parts, hardware and lubricants
  • Build and maintain relationships with regular concession kart customers and vendors

Kart Racing Instruction:

  • Oversee implementation and execution of kart racing principles, provide in-depth knowledge and instruction to all students in all programs and formats through the instructors while leading by example
  • Manage and build on the existing kart racing curriculum for Kart Schools, ensure program is delivered to world-class standards and that all students receive quality instruction and the amount of drills and sessions as planned
  • Develop and implement small group instructional sessions for junior racers under 12 years of age, with the aim of providing an efficient and cost effective way for young racers to be exposed to their first taste of karting, with the overall aim of growing the grass-roots level of the sport
  • Oversee and manage all Private Instruction reservations, schedule instructors, secure payment and manage delivery of these exclusive 1-on-1 sessions, ensuring quality instruction that generates referrals and repeat business.
  • Karts and Parts Sales - work with Inventory & Sales Manager to train and monitor mechanics skill and ability to recommend upgrades, both in terms of new chassis and parts
  • New Business Generation - assist with and attend on and off-site marketing and promotional events geared towards gaining new clientele and new business, specifically for Kart Racing Events and Services
  • Joint responsibility of the Kart Parts and Services P&L (with the Inventory & Sales Manager) - both in terms revenue generation and expense controllables.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5+ years of proven work experience as a kart mechanic; skills and ability to perform high quality race kart tuning and wrenching for race karts in all classes, prior work experience with the service and repair of small engines
  • Must be available for both weekday and weekend work, and some select holidays
  • Passion for racing and motorsports that allows you to smile throughout your shift
  • Ability to routinely perform functions including bending, reaching, turning, climbing and lifting up to 35 pounds
  • Working in a variety of seasonal weather conditions - we have indoor workshops and an outdoor track
  • Actively practices safety at all times
  • A valid driver’s license

Compensation: Salary plus bonus/commissions based on skills and experience
