Race Track Corner Marshal/Flagger

NJMP is currently hiring Race Track Corner Marshals / Flaggers!

Flaggers not only have the best view of the races, they are the key element in a race. They are responsible for providing important information to ensure the safety of our competitors.

Summary- A flagger is a seasonal employee that will be trained in "flagging and communications" at NJMP. The flagger communicates with an event controller via a radio set and displays track conditions to event drivers using a combination of colored flags and hand signals. The flagger's primary objective is to provide information to the competitors about track conditions ahead.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Flagging and Radio Communications
  • Learn and understand road racing flagging rules, including rules for car and motorcycle racing
  • Learn and understand radio communications protocols *Learn and understand the proper use of fire extinguishers
  • Learn and understand proper safety rules as applied to flagging
  • Learn to identify and report any safety issues to the flag chief
  • Staff a defined corner station during all on-track sessions for your assigned shift

Qualifications

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED is necessary for this position
  • Experience: This is an entry level position. NJMP will provide training for this position.

Physical Demands

  • To perform the duties and the functions of this job, you will be regularly required to stand for extended lengths of time
  • Must have full use of your hands to handle and maneuver communication radios for extended lengths of time.
  • Must be able to see well, either naturally or with corrective lenses and have good peripheral vision.
  • Must be able to hear audio communications through radios, with or without a headset, either naturally or with correction.
  • Must be able to speak fluent English and have suitable diction to facilitate clear and understandable radio communications in English.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to stand outdoors for extended periods and to remain alert and attentive during any on-track activities
  • May be exposed to weather conditions such as excessive heat, cold, wind, or rainy conditions.

Requirements

  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Be prompt and reliable
  • Available to work a variety of hours and shifts, weekends are a must.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

8-40 hours per week.

This is a seasonal position, March to Mid November.
